NYC HIV ART EXHIBITION: Hosted by: Chasity Saunders
The First Annual HIV Awareness ART Exhibition is a poignant initiative to remind us all that our FIGHT against HIV is still NOT over will take place in New York City on May 12th & 13th. Before we can stop any epidemic, we first have to recognize the magnitude of the disease both past and present state. Join us and Artist Frank (REK) Santiago at the Rogue Space Chelsea for an evening to remember.
HIV is still a threat across the United States. And even though there are treatments to help people with HIV live longer than ever before, AIDS is still a significant health issue. Surprised? Get the facts:
- Every 9½ minutes (on average), someone in the United States is infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
- In 2006, an estimated 56,300 people became infected with HIV.
- More than 1 million people in the United States are living with HIV.
- Of those 1 million people living with HIV, 1 out of 5 do not know they are infected.
- (People who have HIV but don’t know it can unknowingly pass the virus to their partners.)
- Despite new therapies, people with HIV still develop AIDS.
- Over 1 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with AIDS.
- More than 14,000 people with AIDS still die each year in the United States.
This initiative is a Call to ACTION for a “Positive Cause” by the voices and memories of all those whom have departed us before their time by this epidemic and also to serve the purpose of igniting the resurrection of a new HIV Awareness campaign across America inspired by the Home of Miracles & Embraces, Inc. & Ozzy’s Journey. An initiative aimed at educating and preventing new HIV infections among adolescents right here in our very own backyard, the United States of America. As the epidemic continues claiming lives throughout our nation the Exhibition will continue to grow and reach more communities with its messages of Remembrance, Awareness, Behavioral Modification, Hope for a Cure, Destigmatization , and CHANGE.
